KAMAZ Introduced a New Generation Electric Bus
April 28, 2025
Naberezhnye Chelny, April 28, 2025 – At the Electrotrans exhibition, which opened today, April 28, in Moscow, the leading Russian automaker presented the KAMAZ-52222 electric bus.

The new generation A5 electric bus is a modern stylistic solution for urban transport, combining environmental friendliness and advanced technologies. In comparison with the previous KAMAZ-6282 model, the battery capacity and power reserve have been increased in the KAMAZ-52222 electric bus.
The A5 generation electric bus is equipped with a Russian lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery with a capacity of 230 kWh, providing a range of at least 100 km. The electric portal bridges are equipped with synchronous motors with a power of 2×180 kW. A full charge takes only 55 minutes from a 300 kW station.

A new universal modular passenger platform has been applied. The new electric bus is characterized by a more durable construction and corrosion resistance. In the new product, the design of the middle and rear doors has been changed (sliding doors, according to the type of subway cars). The width of the doorways has been increased (middle and rear – up to 1,380 mm), and the storage area was enlarged too so that passengers couldn’t be trapped (by opening the doors to the outside). All doors are electric powered. There is also a light indication that warns about closing and opening doors.

The interior layout has been optimized. The number of comfortable seats on the “low” floor has been increased, and a luggage area has been added to the front arches. The cabin is designed for 85 passengers with 35 seats. Two-zone climate control, low-floor structure, mechanical ramp and information system create comfortable conditions for passengers. Safety is ensured by an electronic braking system with ABS, ASR, and a slope retention system.

In the new model, the company’s engineers have made the transition to modern Russian-made lighting technology. One of the advantages of the KAMAZ-52222 electric bus is the atmospheric interior lighting. The floor lighting is integrated into the catwalks, atmospheric reflected light is applied: cold in the morning, warm in the evening. Also, in comparison with the KAMAZ-6282 electric bus, the new model has a more efficient climate system. To reduce heat losses, the distribution of air flows has been organized, and the number of heaters has been increased (from 6 to 8 units).
In addition, the driver’s working conditions have been improved. The workplace space has been increased, a driver’s seat with improved functionality and an ergonomic instrument panel are installed in the new electric bus.
The first serial deliveries to the State Unitary Enterprise Mosgortrans are scheduled for April 2025. The total volume of deliveries of this model to Russia’s largest operator of land-based urban passenger transport in 2025 will amount to 400 units.
