IVECO BUS to provide vehicles for the biggest renewal of Croatia’s fleet of mobile libraries

March 17, 2023

Vénissieux, March 17, 2023 – IVECO BUS will supply 4 CROSSWAY buses and 5 DAILY minibuses specially converted into mobile libraries, which will take books and cultural programs for children to remote areas in Croatia. These mobile libraries are an essential component in the country´s network of public libraries, taking culture, education, and entertainment to remote and isolated areas.

Thanks to the project financed by the European Union and the Ministry of Culture and Media of Croatia now it will be possible to restore the aging fleet with ten new vehicles. Nine of them will be specially designed and equipped buses or minibuses supplied by IVECO BUS.

IVECO BUS has already delivered a DAILY 50C minibus to the Lekenik library (about 40 km southeast from capital Zagreb) and a CROSSWAY Line bus to the city of Split. Four more Daily minibuses and three more CROSSWAY buses will be delivered this year to the libraries in Čakovec, Karlovac, Vinkovci, Vrpolje, Virovitica, Bjelovar and Novi Marof.

Mobile libraries are often the only form of library services available to the population living in remote areas. They not only deliver books, but also bring several programs, especially for children up to 14 years old. Additional services offered in the bookmobiles include literary meetings, quizzes, competitions, and small exhibitions.

“At IVECO BUS, we are committed to promoting inclusion, and we are happy that our CROSSWAY and DAILY vehicles can become places of culture that will play an important role in bringing books and entertainment to remote areas, and help address inequality in these isolated locations,” says Stéphane Espinasse, IVECO BUS Sales, and Product Manager.

“Although the focus of mobile libraries has always been on providing services to people living in small settlements far from larger centers, today, mobile libraries around the world, including in our country, are increasingly specialized and target various narrower, vulnerable user categories: children, the elderly, less mobile people and people with disabilities, residents of nursing homes and hospitals, people in correctional institutions, thus providing them with essential social services in addition to library services,” says Grozdana Ribičić, the Library Director of The Marko Marulić City Library Split.
